Spring time has rolled around and it is very noticeable around the campus of Hampton University. Students are pulling out their spring fashion from their closets, signing up for classes, and even planning on their will be residing next school year. Some will be in Dubois Hall or Wilder Hall on campus, while others will move off campus. Many students who do decide to move off campus look at staying at the Harbors complex. The Harbors are literally right across the street from the Harvey Library on campus.
“The harbors are decent apartments that are very convenient. I actually can sleep in longer as my classes are located directly behind the Harvey Library. So, for me, there was no question, I wanted to live in the Harbors,” Jasmine Croom, a Junior Business major said.
In the past couple of years, students had the extended process of camping outside overnight to assure their spot in the harbors because of the competitiveness to get into the harbors.
“Last year me and my roommate waited in line from 6 o’ clock PM until 9:30 AM the next morning. It always seems to rain on the night you have to wait outside in the line. It seemed like the worst experience at the time, but it turned out to be worth it because I got a place in the Harbors,” Harbors tenant, Alicia Craig said.
On the other hand, this year students were able to obtain an application year around and turn it in as they pleased for a spot in the harbors during the 2008-2009 school year.
One of the office employees at the Harbors stated that she switched things up this year in order to bring down the confusion. It just seemed easier for people to come in and take an application rather than to hand out the applications like they did in the past.
This year was much easier for students to acquire a place in the Hampton Harbors Apartment Complex because students did not have to wait outside in the cold and rain overnight.
